Today we'll show you how to make the pusser's painkiller. This painkiller cocktail recipe is a trademark by Pusser's Navy Rum originally created at the soggy dollar bar.

Pusser's Painkiller
- 2 oz Pusser's Navy Strength Rum
- 4 oz Pineapple Juice
- 1 oz Orange Juice
- 1 oz Cream of Coconut
- Generous Nutmeg Garnish

One of the only trademarked cocktail recipes--a Pusser's Painkiller is made with Pusser's Rum and was born in 1971. You probably will encounter this trademarked cocktail if visiting the US Virgin Islands where it's popular.

It was trademarked by the Pusser's brand and continues to be enforced across the world. So much so that a bar in New York named the "Painkiller" was creating Painkillers without Pusser's rum (because they thought some other rums gave it a better taste profile)--Pusser's took them down with lawyers. Now the bar has a new name and a new drink.

The Irony, as Jeff Beachbum Berry reports, the original painkiller was made with a blend of rums in the 70's. It wasn't until the 1980's that Pusser's took it over and rebranded / trademarked the recipe... ten years after its debut.

Second hit of Irony, Pusser's official twitter had recommended using Pusser's Rum in a Dark 'N Stormy...a trademarked cocktail by Goslings.

Due to a lot backlash taking down bars and roughing people up for not using their rum, we may eventually see laws in this way change and people will be able to create this recipe (publically anyway) with any rum they want...time will tell. It's not cheap defending these copyrights either!
