Happy World Tuna day! We spent a night and a day on board of a traditional pole & line tuna fishing vessel in the Maldives. Pole and line fishing of tuna is considered the only real sustainable method of tuna fishing by Greenpeace: "This is the most sustainable fishing method whereby the school of tuna is caught from the aft deck using pole & line: non-destructive and (virtually) no by-catch." This tuna is caught one by one - fish for fish - by a fisherman with a fishing rod. When you shop for tuna, look for the MSC label and pole & line caught tuna to be sure you're buying sustainable!
See you next Fishy Friday!
