In 1948, the government renamed the Tango no Sekku (端午の節句) to Kodomo no Hi (こどもの日), children's day, to respect children's personalities and to celebrate their happiness. But Tango no Sekku event is held on the same day because it is a traditional festival to pray for the health and courage of boys.
