Onion Sambar ( shallots) is a very popular South Indian sambar. It goes well with rice and most South Indian lunch or dinner sambhar. It is one of my favorite sambar.
Ingredients: Oil as required Mustard seeds 1 Teaspoon Baby onion 15 Numbers Cumin seeds 1 Teaspoon Dry red chilies 3 Numbers Green chilies 3 Numbers Curry leaves 3 Stricks Hing 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic 5 Numbers Tomato 3 Numbers Tamarind pulp 1 Cup Water as required Salt as per taste Sambar powder 1 Tablespoon Red chili powder 1 Teaspoon Jaggery 1 Teaspoon Coconut milk 1/2 Cup Toor dal 1 Cup Coriander leaves 1/2 Cup
Method:
Take a pan, and add oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry red chilies, green chilies, curry leaves, hing, turmeric powder, garlic and cook it well.
Now add chopped tomato, tamarind pulp, water, salt and let it boil.
After boiling, add sambar powder, red chili powder, jaggery, coconut milk and cook it with closed lid.
Then add boiled toor dal and cook it for 5 minutes.
Add coriander leaves to it and mix it.
Serve with hot rice.
